who we are
The Alserkal family has had close ties with the cultural life of the country. It has always had a broad-based vision of national life, in which art and culture play an important part.
Besides entrepreneurs, innovators and pearl merchants, it has produced innumerable writers, scholars, and authors, who have written books on chemistry, astronomy, and marine studies.
Mr. Ahmad Bin Eisa Alserkal, a philanthropist, has constantly had a dream to take this vision forward and give it a new momentum. “I want to give back to the country by developing the Emirati spirit through promoting the nation’s unique heritage and cutting-edge innovations“
“It is not only our Corporate Social Responsibility but also our duty”. To shed light on the past and bring to light the present through the life and works of artists, thinkers, and writers.
Alserkal Cultural Foundation was established in May 2008 in the Heritage House No. 13 at Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood.
The Heritage House was built in 1925 by Abdul Razzaq Uztadi and was renovated in 2006 by Dubai Municipality, preserving the original elements of the house. Like many other houses, it contains a courtyard with rooms around it and the Barjeel (Wind tower) which is a traditional cooling system widely known at the time. Heritage House hosted several lectures and talks, which were organized with several associations like Architectural Heritage Association, Emirates Philatelic Association, and Poetry Academy. As well as exhibitions like Phases by the Artist Waleed Al Shami, which was the first exhibition held in Heritage House in May 2008, and was inaugurated by H.E. Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr. Al Multaqa exhibition held in March 2009 and was attended by his Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum the Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and Ruler of Dubai.
Alserkal Cultural Foundation aspires to provide a strategic framework to promote culture. It will do so at three levels:
Locally, by reserving local traditions.
Regionally, by playing a leading role in a neighbourhood
And globally, by turning the UAE into a cultural hub which attracts talent and innovation.
